It May Be a Little Less Good to Be the King – And That Would Be a Very Good Thing

God bless the Internet – and its round-the-clock delivery of breaking news.

Which is disruptive to those of us who like to write about these sorts of things.

But it is like the News Fairy constantly sprinkling her fairy dust down upon us.

We have for months now been writing about the utterly corrupt crony system uber-retailer Amazon has embedded in the Department of Defense (DoD).

Cronyism: Having Your Ex-Employees Award Government Contracts…:

“…makes it much more likely you’ll get government contracts….

“Behold the United States Digital Service (USDS). And the Defense Department’s portion thereof: The Defense Digital Service (DDS)….

“When attention is not paid (to cleaning out Barack Obama Administration holdovers) – you get…things like…(USDS Product and Technology Leader Deap) Ubhi.

“(Who) is simultaneously working for the government – and his own private company. How very Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton-Huma Abedin Weiner of him….

“(I)t seems more than a little odd – and perhaps legally problematic??? – to simultaneously work for the public and private sectors….

“(On Twitter) Ubhi describes himself as USDS’ ‘Product Guy.’  Sounds like procurement to me….

“And where did Ubhi work immediately prior to government? Why look…uber-Big Tech company Amazon.

“You know, the company owned and operated by Jeff Bezos – the world’s richest man and an outspoken anti-Trump agitator.

“And Ubhi didn’t just work for Amazon. He worked for Amazon Web Services (AWS) – Amazon’s cloud storage company.

“Which brings us to this.

“‘Defense Department Gives Trump Enemy Bezos Ten-Year, Monopoly Cloud Contract.’

“Well isn’t that special.”

We’ve oft said:

“President Donald Trump’s far-and-away biggest mistake as chief executive – was not making MANY more people depart the government upon his taking over its top spot.”

But in Trump’s defense:

“Trump is currently in the midst of an additional round of small-bore house cleaning. But the Deep State is very, very un-shallow and inordinately un-narrow – and oh-so-much-more culling needs to be done.”

It appears Trump just hadn’t reached this DoD Deep State point…yet.  Now – it seems he has.

This isn’t even yet a news story – just a Bloomberg News alert…dropped from above by the News Fairy.

Who is Deasy, you ask?  From July 3:

Deasy Takes Control of JEDI, but Fate of DoD’s Cloud Steering Group Is Up in the Air:

“The Pentagon on Monday added some clarity to what it meant by a vague statement it issued a week earlier announcing that its new chief information officer would assume responsibility for the Defense Department’s ‘cloud initiative.’  But a significant portion of the department’s cloud planning effort remains up in the air.

“In a memo DoD provided to Federal News Radio, the department made explicit that the new CIO, Dana Deasy, is now in charge of the upcoming multi-billion dollar Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) contract.

“The memo, signed by Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, orders the program management office conducting the JEDI procurement to be transferred to Deasy’s ‘authority, direction and control.’…

“‘As a part of designating CIO as lead for cloud, the department is reviewing existing governance structures and reporting chains and will take deliberate steps to realign authorities as necessary,’ Heather Babb, a Defense spokeswoman said in a statement. ‘This process is expected to occur over the coming weeks.’”

It sounds like Mister Deasy – is Trump’s DoD Swamp Buster.  And nowhere is the DoD Swampier – than in Amazon’s cozy, crony little JEDI cloud computing backwater.

And Mister Deasy’s process – in just about a week – appears to have led him to not like very much the ten-year-monopoly contract Amazon’s ex-employee was about to hand Amazon.

We will have to wait for the News Fairy to deliver her next rounds of dust to learn more.

But this all by its onesies – is a very good dose.

This part of the Swamp – REALLY stinks.

Drain away, Mister Deasy.
